Moorman Lab

Neuroscience and Behavior at the University of Massachusetts Amherst

Projects

Members of the Moorman Lab are studying a range of topics broadly related to the relationship between neural circuit function and behavior.

We are particularly interested in how neural function in areas of the brain such as the frontal cortex, hippocampus, hypothalamus, and striatum (among others) is associated with motivation and cognitive control.

We are also interested in translational implications of these topics, including those related to drug and alcohol use and dependence, mood and anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, autism spectrum disorder, and neurodegenerative disease.

Currently funded projects are described below:

INIA Stress and Chronic Alcohol Interactions: Norepinephrine and corticostriatal circuit regulation of cognitive effort after chronic alcohol and stress (with Elena Vazey lab)

Investigate the impact of chronic alcohol and stress on neural circuits (locus coeruleus, anterior cingulate, striatum) underlying cognitive control. (NIAAA grant U01AA025481)
